Most interesting sight at SBH (Gustavia) is the wrecks at both sides of
the strip.

None visible on Google Earth. Perhaps they have cleaned up their act.
(literally!)

Evidently. I just looked at GE also. Last time I flew into SBH was in
1986. Would you believe that the French Air Force put a C130 in there
right after Hurricane Luis? Of course the Royal Air Force put 3 C130's
into Wallblake (AXA) that same day.

Cheers,

Dave

Hey If the navy can land a loaded C-130 onto the deck of a carrier
and take off again, the airport at St Bart, would be a piece of cake.

I remember being on board a C-130 making a short field assault landing
on the dirt strip (DZ) at Ft Bragg and then driving my truck with trailer
off the heck, as soon as the wheels of the trailer hit the dirt, the herc
was rolling to take off to clear the spot for another one to come in.

the C-130 is a hell of an airplane......short field or whatever...

Great airplane to jump out of, too ... Very smooth exit from the ramp or
the side doors. Not like the old C141's.

I don't know about that , I always liked the C-141, especially if
you are first in the door.. once the blast shield is extended
and the platform is out, its a heck of a place to stand. your
soutside the plane looking through the holes in the blast shield
or down.. two planes I hated to jump was the C-124 and the C-123
both were a real bitch...

Only a/c I jumped was C130, C141, Huey and a static Balloon -- military
jumps. My skydiving days were mostly from Beavers or Twin Otters. Some
of the stuff the kids at the 82d have today ... wow --- the old T10 is a
museum piece.

All the Way!

As a pathfinder, I was able to get in jumps from many various birds
C-119 (door and tailgate, weird flying without the clamshell doors on..)
C-123 (Not fun, way too much prop blast)
C-124 ( hate that plane, too much sheet metal behind the door, and the
plane flys like a pig)
C-130 (door and tailgate)
C-141
C-7 Caribou (tailgate, before the USAF took them away from the army)
U6-Beaver
UH-1 Huey
CH-47 Chinook

Jumped T-10 and MC-1 chutes

can't remember all the skydiving planes..
